Countdown to Kickoff: Patriots safe at home

There are 14 days until the 2011 NFL season begins, and 14 is a special number for the Patriots over the last decade. The Patriots have lost only 14 home games since 2001, fewest in the NFL over that span. They’ve also won 14 playoff games, most in the NFL since 2001.

While the Patriots open the season on Monday night in Miami, three of their next five games are tough home contests against the Chargers, Jets and Cowboys. So they’ll need that home-field prowess to continue the streak. Their 66-14 record at home from 2001-10 is six games better than the Colts, who have the next-best home record during the same span.
