Wednesday’s meeting between holdout running back Chris Johnson and Tennessee Titans’ management came and went and, well…that sound you hear is the furious scribbling of fantasy owners reworking their draft strategies. Johnson and his agent, Joel Segal, sat down with Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt and VP of Football Administration Vin Marino for a conversation that Reinfeldt called “beneficial”, but one that didn’t get the two sides any closer to a resolution.
“I’m not sure there was any progress made, but I do think it was beneficial to meet,” Reinfeldt said in a statement. “We were able to discuss several different elements of a potential contract, but there was no agreement on those topics.”
So Tennessee’s running back job belongs to Javon Ringer until further notice and the longer Johnson holds out, the greater Ringer’s fantasy value becomes. Yet even under the best of circumstances, the former Michigan State back is no better than a No. 3 back in most leagues and shouldn’t be more than a mid-round pickup. As for Johnson, it’s hard to imagine him sitting out the entire season, so he’s still deserving of a target in the early rounds. But unless he steps onto the practice field in the next couple of days, you have better options for your first round pick.
