Panthers sign center Kalil to five-year extension

The Panthers have signed veteran center Ryan Kalil to a five-year contract extension.

Terms weren’t disclosed, but the deal will keep Kalil under contract through 2016.

The Panthers previously had designated KalilĀ with the franchise tag, giving him a one-year, guaranteed contract worth more than $10 million this season. He earned a $550,000 base salary in 2010.

Kalil, 26, was selected by the Panthers in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He has started every game for the Panthers the past two seasons.
