Lions’ No. 2 running back battle still too close to call

Thanks to¬†Mikel LeShoure’s season-ending injury, the door is open for either Mike Bell or Jerome Harrison to claim any touches that don’t go to Jahvid Best. So far, neither back has particularly impressed — the pair combined for 13 yards on 11 carries in the preseason opener against Cincinnati — not surprising considering both signed with the team just three days before the game. Whoever wins the job isn’t expected to be much more than a third-down or short-yardage option, yet could still be as a late-round look as a “handcuff” for Best. Until coach Jim Schwartz decides one way or another, fantasy owners should plan on looking elsewhere for help.
