Countdown to kickoff: Season-opening streaks

There are 17 days until the 2011 NFL season kicks off between the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers … and 17 also is the record for most consecutive kickoff weekend victories. The Cowboys won 17 straight from 1965-81. If Pittsburgh beats the Baltimore Ravens in their 2011 season opener, the Steelers will be halfway to the Cowboys’ mark. Pittsburgh has the longest active Week 1 winning streak at eight games.

In case you’re wondering about Week 1 losing streaks, the Raiders (who open on the road against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, Sept. 12) have lost eight straight season openers.
