There are 21 days until the 2011 NFL season kicks off — and 21 is also the NFL single-game record for receptions. Brandon Marshall, then with the Broncos, set the mark in Week 14 of the 2009 season. He broke the previous record of 20, which had been set by Terrell Owens during the 2000 season in a game in which Steve Mariucci‘s 49ers were celebrating Jerry Rice Day.
Marshall also has an 18-catch game on his resume from the 2008 season. But since his 21-catch performance, Marshall’s production has tailed off dramatically. In fact, in 17 games since the record was set, Marshall is averaging just more than six receptions per game.
