Franklin’s return to 49ers not out of the question

Free-agent DT Aubrayo Franklin will fly to San Francisco on Monday to meet the 49ers’ new coaching staff, according to a league source, and could return to the team.

It was generally assumed that Franklin would move on — he played last season on a franchise tag and couldn’t come to terms with the 49ers on a long-term deal. But Franklin will meet with new coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff this week, and there’s potential for the sides to work out an agreement.

Franklin has been a regular starter for the 49ers since 2007, serving as a 320-pound run-stuffer.
