The Indianapolis Colts informed CB Kelvin Hayden Saturday he is being released, according to a league source.
Hayden, 28, has been a starter for the Colts for the past four seasons, although he has missed time each of the past three seasons due to injuries. He played in 11 games last season, registering 61 total tackles with two interceptions and eight passes defensed.
It was thought that with QB Peyton Manning accepting less than he could have made with his new five-year contract the Colts could spend more on other players. That likely is still true, but it didn’t help Hayden, who was due a hefty sum of nearly $9 million in base salary in 2011.
