Panthers, Newton agree on $22 million contract

The Carolina Panthers and first overall pick Cam Newton reached terms on a four-year, $22 million contract on Friday, according to a league source.

The $22 million is fully guaranteed.

The deal pales in comparison to what Sam Bradford, last year’s first overall pick, received from St. Louis. Bradford’s deal was for six years, $78 million total with $50 million guaranteed.

Newton is the 16th first-round pick to agree to terms, and all of the top-10 picks, except No. 5 overall pick Patrick Peterson (Cardinals), are done deals.
