The Panthers and rookie QB Cam Newton are very close to an agreement on a four-year deal, according to league sources.
Representatives for Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in the April draft, spoke extensively with the Panthers on Thursday. They expect to work out a few little things, put the deal to bed Friday morning and have Newton ready to participate in any training-camp drills.
Newton’s four-year deal — excluding a team option — is expected to be worth around $23 million, all of it guaranteed.
