New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora will not report for his 9 a.m. ET physical with the team, but might appear later on Friday, according to a league source.
The Giants have team meetings scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
Umenyiora wants a new deal or he wants to be traded.
Umenyiora and general manager Jerry Reese haven’t seen eye to eye. Team owner John Mara said earlier this month that Umenyiora and Reese should move beyond their dispute. Umenyiora claimed in a deposition, gathered for the Brady et al v. National Football League et al case, that Reese promised in 2008 to either trade him or pay him among the top-five defensive ends in the game if he still was playing at a high level in two seasons.
The 6-foot-3, 261-pound defender spent 2008 on injured reserve with a knee injury. In 2009, he operated as a situational player and argued with the team’s coaching staff. Umenyiora came to life in 2010, with an NFL-record 10 forced fumbles and a team-high-tying 11.5 sacks, leading him to suggest that Reese hadn’t honored his word.
