The Jets have agreed to terms with WR Santonio Holmes on a five-year deal that averages slightly less than $10 million per season with $24 million guaranteed, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Sources said Tuesday that the Redskins planned to make a run at Holmes, hoping to pair him with Santana Moss, but the Jets got a deal done first.
The 2010 season marked Holmes’ first with the Jets, for whom he caught 52 passes for 746 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. He was suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
