Data Points: 1,000-yard seasons after turning 34

Does Plaxico Burress have anything left in the tank? The former Steelers and Giants wide receiver turns 34 in August, and many are wondering if he is too old to make a successful return after being out of the game since 2008.
Not many wideouts have been productive at Burress’ age, although there are a few examples since the AFL-NFL merger of players who’ve had big seasons at an age when most guys are retiring. There have been 25 instances of a wide receiver producing a 1,000-yard season after turning 34.
Jerry Rice passed the barrier in the season he turned 34 (1996), then went on to have three more 1,000-yard campaigns. Not surprisingly, he’s done it the most, and sits atop the list of veteran playmakers in the passing game shown below.
