U.S. troops serving in Kuwait pose with (left to right) Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, former NFL coach and current NFL Network analyst Jim Mora Jr., former New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Mora Sr., and Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt on Friday, July 1, 2011. This is the first USO tour for the group, who join the growing list of NFL coaches to travel overseas on USO entertainment tours.

Whisenhunt wrote about his experience on the Cardinals’ official website, describing his arrival in Kuwait as the first glance at a “whole different culture.” In meeting with soldiers along the way, the veteran coach noted their zeal for the NFL.

“They talked about how they get up at 2:30 in the morning (Mondays) during the season to watch these games because that’s what times the games come on. So they will get up in the middle of the night, watch the game, and then they have breakfast,” Whisenhunt wrote. “That’s their routine, before their normal workday. That’s a dedicated fan.”

Saying that meeting the soldiers has been “one of the greatest experiences of my life,” Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle on Saturday that the question he gets asked the most is whether there will be football this season.

Said Kubiak: “I tell them, ‘Yes, we’re going to have football this season!'”
