Kirwan: Best spot for VY is Philly

Vince Young hasn’t been in many conversations as a possible solution to a team’s quarterback void, but there are plenty of ideas about where the former first-round draft pick might fit next season.
NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwan took up the topic during a live chat Tuesday, and while he agrees with Bucky Brooks’ assessment that the Bills make sense as a suitor, he sees a better fit for Young with the Eagles.
“I’ve felt, all along, that Young needs a year to disappear and not be stuck in a lineup on a bad team where he would struggle,” Kirwan said. “To me, the best place for him to go is Philadelphia once Kevin Kolb is traded. Let’s see if Michael Vick’s newfound preparation skills will rub off on Young.”
The Eagles certainly would need a reliable backup if they deal Kolb, and Young, whom the Titans plan to cut or trade once the NFL lockout ends, stands to improve his work ethic, commitment and leadership playing behind Vick, who reclaimed his own career after a federal prison sentence. On the field, the two share a similar playing style.
If Young is willing to accept a backup role in Philadelphia, it could provide some long-term benefits.
