Data Points: Asomugha tough to throw on

Some of our NFL.com personalities debated this week which player would get the first phone call when the free-agency period finally opens. The name mentioned most prominently was that of free-agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
What is it about Asomugha that has everyone hot and bothered? Probably the fact that no one can complete a pass on him. Now, this is not to say there aren’t other cornerbacks who gave up a low number of completions. But, among those that were thrown at 30 times or more in 2010, Asomugha was one of the most effective NFL pass defenders.
In fact, three of the top-five cornerbacks in this category were Raiders. Like Asomugha, his partner on the other side of the field, Stanford Routt, allowed a 39.4 percent completion rate, while nickel back Chris Johnson (40.5 percent) probably proved he’s more than capable of starting.
