At some point soon (at least we think), Vince Young will become an unrestricted free agent. But the buzz over where Young will land has taken a backseat to that on where several of the other quarterbacks available in free agency (Matt Hasselbeck, Marc Bulger) or via a trade (Kevin Kolb, Kyle Orton, Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb) are destined to go.
Despite Young’s 30-17 career record as a starter, questions about his work ethic, commitment and leadership likely means he takes a veteran-minimum contract and competes for a starting job. Analyst Bucky Brooks has some ideas in mind as to the offensive schemes which best fit Young, and said during a recent live chat he leans toward the Bills as the best fit.
“Young would be a great fit for a team that features a strong running game and a vertical aerial attack,” Brooks noted. “From a schematic standpoint, he would certainly fit in Miami, Oakland, Buffalo and possibly Washington. If I had to choose the ideal place, I would lean towards Buffalo due to the success Chan Gailey has enjoyed with athletic quarterbacks.”
As Brooks notes, Gailey has a history working with mobile quarterbacks, most notably Kordell Stewart.
