There’s little doubt free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha would make every team in the NFL better. It’s also not a reach to suggest every team would hold some interest in adding the two-time first-team All Pro when the free-agent market eventually opens, at least before the sticker shock of Asomugha’s price tag settles in.
Crossing teams off the list of potential suitors for Asomugha is really a more interesting endeavor. NFL Network information man Jason La Canfora fielded a number of questions about Asomugha in a recent live chat with fans, and floated some logic as to why three teams wouldn’t be a potential landing spot.
49ers: “I don’t see them going that route at this point. They need secondary help, but after the Nate Clements deal and with some other holes to fill as well, I’m not sure they set the market again for a corner.”
Cowboys: “Asomugha will set the market at corner, but Jonathan Joseph could make more sense for Dallas.”
Redskins: “Asomugha at this stage of his career would not make as much sense as a younger option. Ike Taylor is 31 — that route doesn’t make much sense either for where the Redskins are right now.”
While the outcome of the current labor negotiations will play a big factor in this discussion, La Canfora also views the Jets as a long-shot for Asomugha.
