The working assumption in Cincinnati — at least according to Jordan Palmer — is that neither Chad Ochocinco nor Terrell Owens will be Bengals next season. Not much of a surprise there. For Owens, it means the third consecutive offseason as a gun for hire on the free-agent market.
Owens is an intriguing name among the expected free-agent receivers for a number of reasons we don’t need to recap, but what can’t be ignored is he remains productive on the field. In 14 games last season, the 37-year-old finished with 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns, a relative bargain for the Bengals.
NFL Network’s Jamie Dukes doesn’t envision any drop off for Owens.
“He will play at a Pro Bowl level if he lands with a team that has a solid quarterback,” Dukes said. “It’s not a leap, at all, to see that Owens is still a very good football player at his age. Between the lines, he’s still an elite receiver in the league. To me, the perfect place for him is Chicago.”
The Bears passed on Owens last offseason, but no doubt there would be no shortage of interest in Mike Martz, Jay Cutler and Owens working together.
