With so many pass rushers going in the first round of the draft, there is a perception that free agency is an afterthought when it comes to getting after the quarterback. Not true.
Although there may not be any huge names that jump off the page of potential free-agent pass rushers, there are some restricted and unrestricted free agents that can bolster a team’s pass rush. Free agency is often buyer’s luck, with some players able to generate sacks in any system, whereas others struggle when moved around or playing alongside different players.
With that in mind, here are some of the names lingering out there: Cliff Avril (RFA), Jason Babin (UFA), Raheem Brock (UFA), Ray Edwards (RFA), Shaun Ellis (UFA), Cullen Jenkins (UFA), Charles Johnson (UFA), and Mathias Kiwanuka (RFA). Based on production and age, the Panthers’ Johnson may be the best bargain.
