Data Points: Asomugha headlines free agent CBs

On Wednesday, we looked at who made up the list of the top potential free-agent pass rushers. Today, it’s a quick check of the top cornerbacks that can be expected to be had on the free-agent market.
There aren’t many true “shutdown” corners in the game anymore, especially considering so few teams play man-to-man with any regularity. Still, there are some good players who can be acquired for the right price: Antonio Cromartie, Chris Houston, Johnathan Joseph, Ike Taylor, just to name a few.
Houston is a solid player who, after four full seasons, could become an unrestricted free agent with a new CBA. Cromartie allowed 47 receptions last season, but he was thrown at 107 times while playing opposite Darrelle Revis.
But there is also the NFL’s premier shutdown corner, Nnamdi Asomugha, 30, set to hit the free-agent market. Expect him to get a lot of attention when free agency begins, and deservedly so. Asomugha gave up 13 receptions … the entire season.
