Data Points: Veteran RBs on the market

On Friday, we checked out some of the big names on the free-agent market at wide receiver. While there are many marquee wideouts hungry for contracts, there aren’t too many premium running backs available.

With many teams going to a running back by committee approach, as well as the perception that guys just don’t last like the Walter Paytons and Tony Dorsetts of yesteryear, the likelihood of a team paying big dollars toward a featured back is slim.

But keeping the state of the modern franchise back in mind, there are arguably just five free agents who might be able to command a big salary from a team looking to seriously bolster its ground attack: Cedric Benson, Ahmad Bradshaw, Ronnie Brown, Pierre Thomas, and DeAngelo Williams.
