Shannon Sharpe (finally) gets stage time

NEW YORK — It’s not easy keeping Shannon Sharpe quiet for too long, but the loquacious new member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame was kept off the Radio City Music Hall stage — at least temporarily — when the 49ers traded up to take QB Colin Kaepernick with the fourth pick in the second round.

Sharpe and 31 other former NFL players are on hand to announce the second-round picks for their respective teams. Sharpe was all set to announce the Broncos’ pick when the 49ers traded spots with Denver to grab their QB of the future. In case you’re wondering, former 49ers WR Dwight Clark announced that pick.

But you can’t keep Sharpe down for too long. In fact, he got to double his pleasure: Because of the trade, the Broncos had back-to-back picks (Nos. 45 and 46).

“Welcome to the family,” Sharpe declared as he announced UCLA safety Rahim Moore as the 45th pick.

For the 46th pick, however, Sharpe came out with a Broncos fan in a Terrell Davis jersey who had won a contest to announce the pick, which turned out to be Miami OT Orlando Franklin.

Other notables on stage or scheduled to announce picks for their former teams included Hall of Famers Anthony Munoz, Andre Tippett, Paul Warfield, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Willie Brown, Willie Lanier, Richard Dent, Franco Harris and Jim Taylor.
