Lombardi: Carter value pick, fills need for Cowboys

NEW YORK — The Cowboys found value and filled a need with their selection of LB Bruce Carter at No. 40 overall in the second round. This is really a pick for the future, and it’s a pick I like.
Carter is a good player, and the Cowboys got a guy in the second round who will ultimately become a first round-caliber player once his ACL heals. He tore his left ACL in November and wasn’t able to work out for teams during the draft process. But we know that guys come back from ACL injuries.
Carter has the ability to make plays on all four downs, another plus. He’s also scheme-diverse and will fit in at inside or outside linebacker in the Cowboys’ 3-4 defense.
