Our Steve Wyche kicked of his Thursday morning chat on NFL.com by saying that he was more energized than Scott Hanson on a Red Bull bender. Well, that is one way to describe it.
Wyche certainly delivered as he tackled a number of topics, including the Detroit Lions. So how about it Steve, do the Lions have a chance of making the playoffs?
“I predicted the Lions making that leap IF [Matthew] Stafford stays healthy,” Wyche said. “Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew are putting together not only a talented roster but a hungry and nasty one. I like what they are doing a lot. Everything hinges on Stafford, though. ”
But wait a minute, didn’t the Lions close out the season with six wins, including a win over the defending-champion Packers? Wins with journeyman Shaun Hill at quarterback. So doesn’t that mean that the Lions could win without Stafford?
“They can if they tighten up the leaky defense,” Wyche replied via email. “They just stand a much better chance with Stafford, who is a talent and a gamer. They also need Jahvid Best to stay healthy.”
With or without Stafford, though, it appears that the Lions will be looked at as a potential playoff team in the upcoming season.
