There are 21 days until the 2011 NFL Draft festivities get under way at Radio City Music Hall. We looked into the relevance “21” has to April’s big weekend.
- Prime…time. Where did Deion Sanders, the most famous 21 of all time, go in the draft? How about No. 5 overall, not bad for a corner. But many draft analysts, including NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, have LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson going at least that high.
- Former AFL star John Hadl. Funny thing is, this No. 21 was a quarterback. Hadl was drafted 10th overall by the NFL’s Lions in 1962, but opted to sign with the Chargers, who nabbed him at the 24th spot in the AFL draft. He would go on to throw for 33,503 yards in a 16-year career, despite wearing LaDainian Tomlinson‘s number.
- 21 defensive tackles were taken in last year’s draft. You say defensive tackle isn’t sexy? Well, there’s little doubt that the best rookie in the league last season was Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh, a defensive tackle… and first team All-Pro. More than 10 defensive linemen could be chosen in the first round this year.
