Brooks: Mallett could be a steal

Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert figure to be the top two quarterbacks selected in the 2011 NFL Draft. But who will be the biggest bargain? That might be Ryan Mallett.
At least that’s what our Bucky Brooks told NFL.com readers Thursday during his latest chat.
“I believe that Mallett will be an outstanding pro,” Brooks wrote. “He has exceptional talents as a passer, and he will enter the league ready to play in a pro system after spending two years directing Bobby Petrino‘s offense. If he can continue to grow as a leader, he could be the steal of the draft when we look back at it in a few years.”
Brooks wrote in a recent column that Mallett’s football IQ rated off the charts and only questions about his character could hold him back. But if teams can overlook that, and Mallett shows maturity, look out.
