Brandt: Broncos could go QB at No. 2

Gil Brandt still believes in Tim Tebow as a viable NFL quarterback, but he does buy into the notion that John Elway and John Fox might not share his opinion — and that they very well could take a quarterback with the second overall pick in the draft.
During his weekly NFL.com chat, Brandt was asked about the situation.
“Apparently, John Elway does not feel that Tim Tebow will ever be the franchise QB the previous regime had hoped he’d be,” said Brandt, “so they are thinking about drafting a QB.
“Personally, I think they’ll go defensive line with that No. 2 overall pick. But don’t be surprised if they go QB somewhere else.”
The Broncos have been to many of the pro days featuring the key quarterbacks available in this year’s draft. Brandt said it is not a smokescreen.
“Let’s say this… if the Panthers take Marcell Dareus with the No. 1 pick, the Broncos might think about Cam Newton with the second pick.
“The defense definitely needs fixing after last year. But John Elway and John Fox are smart enough to know that if you have a chance to draft a franchise-type QB, you have to do it. It’s not often you find yourself in position to do it. So they have to at least know how they feel about these top QBs in the draft.”
Brandt reiterated that he still thinks Tebow can be a franchise QB. “If it’s me, I stick with Tim Tebow,” he said. “I have always been a Tebow guy based on the fact that all he does is win. But that’s just me.”
