It’s true that we spent an inordinate amount of time and space covering “The Beard” this postseason – like here, and here, and then finally here, when Brett Keisel shaved the thing in a “Shear the Beard” event benefitting cancer programs at Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital.
But it looks like Keisel wasn’t the only one to rock a little chin music for charity these days. Eight year veteran RB T.J. Duckett started growing his out two years ago when the Seahwaks abruptly let him go before the 2009 season.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has gone from virtually unwanted to a high-round draft prospect, and his workout at Nevada’s outdoor pro day on Tuesday further boosted his stock.

The Kansas City Chiefs attended Fort Hays State’s pro day on March 24 to get a better look at wide receiver O.J. Murdock. A transfer from South Carolina, Murdock (5-foot-10 1/2, 192 pounds) is a speedy, raw prospect who stood on all his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He provided a positional workout, running routes and catching passes for the Chiefs personnel in attendance. In total, 13 players from Fort Hays State attended, as well as three other players from small schools in the area. The event was held outdoors on FieldTurf.

East Carolina hosted its pro day on March 23, giving 14 NFL hopefuls an opportunity to increase their stock ahead of this month’s draft. Representatives from eight teams were in attendance, including Atlanta Falcons wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie. The event was held outdoors on FieldTurf. Dwayne Harris was among the players who helped himself at the event. A hard worker with the ability to be an effective slot receiver at the next level, Harris (5-foot-10 1/2, 204 pounds) posted a 40 time of 4.56 against the wind and 4.51 with the wind. He kept his numbers from February’s NFL Scouting Combine otherwise. In positional drills, Harris showed off his strong pass-catching and route-running skills. He will have a pre-draft […]

While some teams around the league have gathered for informal workouts, the Patriots aren’t one of them. Tight end Rob Gronkowski says such workouts aren’t currently in the plans. For now, the Patriots are left to their own devices.

The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team is back in the Final Four, but that’s not the only big event on campus this month. The school hosted its pro day on March 23, giving NFL hopefuls a chance to show their skills in front of representatives from 17 teams, including New York Jets linebacker coach Bob Sutton and Green Bay Packers director of player personnel John Dorsey. The well-organized event — the first run by new Huskies coach Paul Pasqualoni — was held indoors on FieldTurf. Notable performances included: OL Zack Hurd — Hurd (6-foot-7 1/8, 321 pounds) stood on his NFL Scouting Combine numbers except for the bench press. He recorded 17 strength lifts at 225 pounds. He also […]

The Chargers had the top-ranked defense in 2010, but could the team be looking for some help on defense in the upcoming draft? The San Diego Union-Tribune‘s Kevin Acee joined “Path to the Draft” on Wednesday to talk about where the Chargers could be looking with the 18th pick in the draft.

Texas Christian QB Andy Dalton stopped by the NFL Network studios Wednesday, and we took some time to get to know him as he prepares for the 2011 NFL Draft.

Delone Carter is the type of player that’s en vogue in the NFL right now. A compact running back out of Syracuse, Carter is a change-of-pace type with above-average skills as a receiver out of the backfield. Carter was one of 15 NFL hopefuls on display at Syracuse’s March 23 pro day. Representatives from 26 teams attended the event, held indoors on FieldTurf. Carter (5-8 5/8, 224) ran 40 times of 4.50 and 4.46 and posted a 10-1 broad jump. He stood on his NFL Scouting Combine times in the vertical leap and three-cone drill. He also took part in positional drills. He will find a home somewhere on draft day, likely somewhere in the fourth or fifth round. Another […]

Based on the current state of things around the NFL, it’s tough to find any news that has major fantasy significance (sigh). So when several coaches and other organizational leaders discussed the state of their teams during the annual Owners Meetings, you can only imagine how quickly I jumped on the information.
Posted: Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 | Gil Brandt Tags: Tennessee-Chattanooga pro day, Buster Skrine, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars
Buster Skrine rocketed up draft boards with a head-turning display of speed at the combine, posting one of the fastest 40-yard dash times in Indianapolis. The cornerback showed off his speed again on March 23, when Tennessee-Chattanooga held its pro day. Skrine was one of six players to work out in front of representatives from 15 teams, including Jacksonville Jaguars defensive backs coach Cory Undlin and Chicago Bears defensive backs coach Jon Hoke. The event was held outdoors on FieldTurf. Skrine stood on all of his combine numbers and took part in positional workouts. Skrine had initial offers from 11 Division I schools out of high school before concerns about his size (5-7, 145) scared off many teams and led […]

The Buccaneers are reportedly the front runners to be the subject of this year’s “Hard Knocks” on HBO. Not a terrible choice. But we think we can do better.

While the UFL has its share of problems like, oh I don’t know — losing approximately $50 million on the 2010 season and being sued by league investor Mark Cuban — one matter they don’t have any issue with is attracting long-standing NFL coaches to helm their teams.

Anthony Castonzo is considered by many as one of the top offensive lineman available in the 2011 NFL Draft, and the collegiate standout did nothing to refute that during Boston College’s pro day workout on March 23. Castonzo (6-foot-7, 313 pounds) stood on his combine numbers, but showed off his the size and quickness in positional drills. His workout probably moved him up from the lower half to the middle of the first round. Representatives from 17 teams attended the workout, including New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. The event was held indoors on FieldTurf. Nine Boston College players worked out, as well as 24 players from a host […]

Mississippi DT Jerrell Powe decided to conduct almost a complete workout at the school’s pro day held Tuesday, and it just might have paid off.
