The brackets are in.
The first games are in the books.
And optimism still abounds (coupled with some extra bravado from St. Patrick’s Day Guinness) as the NCAA Basketball Tournament officially gets underway.
But by tonight’s 9:45 p.m. ET Gonzaga vs. St. John’s tip-off, things might be a bit bleaker if your teams were sent packing early.
As a twist, we decided to measure the field of 64 for a different type of college bragging rights by breaking down the number of current NFL players who hail from each of the tourney schools.
You’re in luck if you’re a Longhorn with the granddaddy total of 46 players in the league.
For 20 other schools, just hope they keep on dancing with zero current NFL progeny:
Georgetown (No. 6 tourney seed), St. John’s (6), Xavier (6), Butler (8), George Mason (8), Old Dominion (9), Marquette (11), Virginia Commonwealth (11), Gonzaga (11), Belmont (13), Morehead State (13), St. Peter’s (14), Princeton (13), Oakland (13), Indiana State (14), Bucknell (14), UC Santa Barbara (15), Long Island (15), Boston University (16), UNC-Asheville (16).
And now for the rest:
