The lockout is having an impact on schools’ pro days. When prospects such as Florida State QB Christian Ponder are working out for scouts, he usually is throwing to NFL free agents — a practice that has stopped because of the labor dispute. Ponder threw to former St. Louis WR Isaac Bruce, a fullback and a tailback while taking his scripted throws down from the originally planned 60 to 35.
But NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said that did not hurt Ponder, who continues to ascend up draft boards. Ponder showed an above-average arm and footwork coming out of center that gives him an advantage over someone such as TCU’s Andy Dalton, who played in the spread offense in college.
More on Ponder’s draft stock.
