Tight ends coaches Rob Boras from the Jaguars and James Daniel from the Steelers were among 14 scouts on hand Wednesday to check out Portland State’s Julius Thomas (6-foot-4 3/8, 248 pounds).
Thomas stood on his numbers from the combine but did position drills outdoors on FieldTurf and looked very good.
Players from other schools around Oregon participated as well, including Western Oregon wide receiver Demario Ballard (6-5 1/2, 219). He ran 4.48 and 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, had a 35 1/2 vertical leap, 10-8 broad jump, 4.18 short shuttle and 7.13 in the cone drill.
Many scouts had never seen Ballard in action and he could land on a roster as an undrafted free agent.
