Rutgers safety Joe Lefeged is doing his part to get noticed.
The 6-foot 1/8, 212 pound safety worked out for the Buffalo Bills earlier this month and has at least two additional workouts scheduled with NFL teams following a good showing at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Lefeged was one of 10 Scarlet Knights and five players from small schools to showcase indoors on FieldTurf before 22 NFL teams at the school’s pro day on March 9.
After the school’s brightest draft prospect tempered concerns over his speed at the combine with a 4.43 performance in the 40-yard dash, Lefeged used his pro day to re-run the three-cone drill in 6.72 seconds and stage a positional workout in what amounted to more of a fine-tuning before April’s NFL Draft.
DB Brandon Bing (5-9 3/8, 181) did a nice job in the three-cone drill, running it in 6.90 seconds. A three-cone below seven seconds suggests quality speed, and Bing backed that up with 40-yard dash times of 4.41 and 4.44 seconds. Bing notched a 38 1/2 vertical and 11-3 broad jump, with a 4.28 in the short shuttle. He also tallied 18 bench press lifts at 225 pounds.
DE Jonathan Freeny (6-2 1/2, 250) ran a 4.72 40 and had a 37 1/2 verticle and 10-3 broad jump. He clocked a 4.34 short shuttle and 11.07 three-cone drill. Freeny has long, 34-inch arms, which he used to total 18 bench press lifts. Freeny worked out during drills as a defensive end and outside linebacker.
