Seven prospects from Fordham University and 21 players from various small schools worked out March 8 in front of scouts from 16 NFL teams.
Talent evaluators from the Eagles and the Ravens arrived specifically to run drills for defensive back Isa Abdul El-Quddus (5-11 5/8, 199), who had an impressive workout outdoors on FieldTurf.
He ran 4.47 and 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash, had a 36 1/2-inch vertical leap, 10-5 broad jump, 4.13 short shuttle, 7.15 3-cone drill and did 23 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.
Abdul El-Quddus did a positional workout afterward and will likely end up getting drafted because of his strong pro day performance.
Tight end Steve Skelton (6-4 5/8, 252) also captivated the scouts at Fordham. He ran 4.70 and 4.85 in the 40, had a 28-inch vertical leap, 8-11 broad jump, 4.46 short shuttle, 7.48 3-cone drill and completed 25 strength lifts.
Cardinals QB John Skelton, Steve’s brother, was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft last year. A second Skelton sibling won’t be drafted in 2011, but he will likely end up on a roster as a free agent.
