EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — BYU and its honor code has been in the news this week after former NFL players Glen Kozlowski and Jim McMahon admitted that they broke the rules which landed center Brandon Davies on suspension this week.
NFL hopeful Jordan Cameron began his collegiate career at BYU, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who also played at the school. Cameron spoke positively about BYU and coach Dave Rose during a brief chat while filming a draft vignette at the Clippers former training facility in the South Bay. It was the desire to play football that drove him to play at USC. A good decision that could pay dividends after Cameron wowed scouts at the NFL Scouting Combine. Now he’s taking to viral marketing to get his name out there.
Cameron was joined by NBA dunking champion Blake Griffin, who did a spoof of the famed Mars Blackmon ads and a mini-dunk contest. Video of that is coming next week. In the meantime, here is a short question-and-answer session to get to know Cameron.
Adam Rank: Favorite team growing up?
Jordan Cameron: The Lakers.
AR: How about an NFL team?
JC: I was more into players really instead of just one team.
AR: Like who?
JC: (Chargers tight end and former college hoops player) Antonio Gates was a guy I watched, along with receivers like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.
AR: Who are you looking forward to playing against when you reach the NFL?
JC: I haven’t really thought about that yet. I’m just looking forward to the opportunity of playing in the NFL and not worried about that other stuff.
AR: Where you a Madden guy?
JC: No, no video games for me.
AR: This seems automatic, but if you were going to play another sport …
JC: (Laughs) Basketball.
AR: Too easy?
JC: A little bit.
AR: Favorite TV show?
JC: “The Office.” “Lost.” I love Steve Carell, he’s hilarious.
AR: Will you watch the show once Carell leaves?
JC: Probably not.
AR: You are a USC guy, what happens if Will Ferrell takes over, would you watch then?
JC: Definitely. I love his movies.
AR: What other movies do you enjoy?
JC: “Braveheart” and the “Wedding Singer.” I love Adam Sandler movies. Although, I guess those two really don’t go together (laughs).
AR: Favorite event at the combine?
JC: The 40. That’s the one you put the most work into, so it was nice to finally go out and let loose. I’ve never been timed in the 40 before, so that went pretty good.
AR: Best player to come out of USC?
JC: Oh man, Marcus Allen, O.J. Simpson, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart.
AR: Your (now former) athletic director was pretty good, too.
JC: Oh yeah, Mike Garrett, Heisman Trophy winner. He was a stud.
AR: What kind of music do you enjoy?
JC: Everything except for country.
AR: Big head phones or ear buds?
JC: Ear buds.
AR: What are you listening to before games?
JC: Whatever gets kicked into the shuffle.
AR: If you could hire any band in the world to play your wedding, who would it be?
JC: Coldplay. They can play everything, right?
AR: Celebrity you are told that you look like?
JC: James Franco.
AR: So if they make the story of your life, he would be a good choice?
JC: I guess so, but for looks only.
