Steelers WR Hines Ward is in for “Dancing with the Stars,” joining the cast of has beens and who is thats which includes Ralph Macchio, Kendra Wilkinson and Chris Jericho (the favorite to take the thing). And that should totally make up for that loss in the Super Bowl, right Steelers fan?
Ward was an interesting selection, considering he’s not the most well-known star despite being a former Super Bowl MVP. So we turned it to you — because I don’t write fluff pieces this early in the week — to see which current NFL player you would like to see on the show in an attempt to become the Hugh Jackman of the NFL.
The most recurring answer was “I hate ‘Dancing with the Stars.'” Which we can’t take seriously because many of you enjoy Rich Eisen running the 40-yard dash at the combine.
After perusing the suggestions here in this space and on Facebook, we have pieced together — non-scientifically — the top six current NFL players we would like to see on “Dancing with the Stars.”
We did clearly state current player, but I would be remiss if not to mention a couple of wonderful coaching suggestions. One, Rex Ryan because — wait for it — he’s light on his feet. And this comment from our Facebook account that suggested Bill Belichick because he would have to wear something other than a hoodie for a change. Although, that might not be true, because he could always bedazzle a hoodie.
Ed Hochuli got a few votes, too. And why not? This would be a great opportunity to show of his guns in a sequined vest. Chad Ochocinco also was mentioned, ignoring the fact that he was previously a contestant. (A fact I am not sure whether makes me upset at you for suggesting it, or envious that you have no knowledge of “DWTS.”)
Alright, enough stalling, here it is.
6. Albert Haynesworth
Well, he should be doing something with his time since it is becoming clear that he will not be playing for the Redskins this season. And most contestants of this show say this has put them in the best shape of their lives. Hmm, maybe Donovan McNabb should take a crack at this.
5. Peyton Manning
Manning already has the happy feet needed to excel. And as one reader put it, Manning’s ultra competitiveness would end up making everybody else uncomfortable which would be awesome for us. I would expect it to end like this. Like Charlie Sheen in his role on “Two and a Half Men,” I get the idea that Manning really isn’t acting here.
4. Ray Lewis
Alright, this seems almost gratuitous at this point, but you have to admit, you would probably tune in to watch Lewis. Alright, probably almost tune in to watch.
3. B.J. Raji
Far and away the most suggested player on the list. Although, he needs to work a little bit on his moves. But there is some promise there.
2. Rashard Mendenhall
Maybe the “DWTS” producers missed the boat here, because Mendenhall is a dancer. Anybody else surprised at how good he is? Lynn Swann has some competition as most overrated Steelers best Steelers dancer ever.
1. Drew Stanton
Because honestly, as reader Samuel Spada pointed out, this guy needs a Tosh-like web redemption for this Dougie. Oh man. Just be glad C.M. Punk didn’t see this and Tweet about it.
