UPDATE: Ward is in, as it was announced during The Bachelor on Monday night. Sadly, the cowboy hat in the picture did not make it with him.

Producers for “Dancing with the Stars” are reportedly after Steelers WR Hines Ward according to Bob Pompeani of KDKA TV in Pittsburgh, (via SportsBlog Nation).

TMZ has already leaked six of the names expected to be released Monday night during “The Bachelor” and it includes WWF superstar Chris Jericho, Kendra Wilkinson and Kirstie Alley among others, but not Ward.

The show has been good to NFL stars previously, with Emmitt Smith winning and Jason Taylor, Jerry Rice, Chad Ochocinco, Lawrence Taylor, Warren Sapp and Kurt Warner all competing and doing well. Well, most of them doing well.

But does the courtship of Ward seem a little strange? He’s a nice player and all, and maybe the most like the Rock, but you would think that maybe they could come up with somebody a little bit more compelling.
