Newton tackles ‘entertainer and icon’ comments

INDIANAPOLIS — Cam Newton ascended the same steps that Tim Tebow took last year, before the same size of crowd. But Newton had to do something Tebow didn’t: address controversial comments.

Newton, the NFL Scouting Combine’s biggest draw, opened his much-anticipated Saturday news conference with a prepared statement in an attempt to clarify his recent comments about being an “entertainer” and an “icon.” The Auburn QB expressed humility and said he was excited about the combine and draft experience, then later answered a question about his comments by saying he believed he was misunderstood.

Newton also said he would participate in every combine drill, as well as Auburn’s March 8 pro day. will have much more on this developing story.
