Ahmad Black
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 190 lbs.
College: Florida
Conference: SEC
Overview: Black’s an undersized safety prospect who should be able to contribute immediately in sub-packages and as a special teams cover guy even if he never becomes a starter. Has excellent instincts. Plays tough and is durable despite lack of size. Very capable in deep cover-2 or lining up over slots but doesn’t have the size or length against physical receivers. Flies to the ball, is a sure tackler when coming up to support the run, and will make plays in the backfield when asked to blitz. Black overcame his lack of size in college and may get the chance to do so again as a mid-round pick.
Noteworthy: Black was one of four UF seniors selected to the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl. … He was named Second Team All-America by the Associated Press and a consensus First-Team All-SEC pick by the coaches and The Associated Press. … Black tied for sixth in the country for defensive backs with a team-leading 108 tackles (first among SEC defensive backs) in 2010. … He tied for fourth in the country and first in the SEC for most interceptions in a game (2 each vs. USF and Penn State). … Black was named MVP of the 2011 Outback Bowl in his final game as a Gator, with six tackles and two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.
