Combine invitees to learn NCAA eligibility fate

Two players invited to next week’s NFL Scouting Combine, Purdue WR Keith Smith and Mississippi DE Kentrell Lockett, are expected to learn from the NCAA on Monday if they will be granted a sixth year of eligibility, NFL.com’s Gil Brandt reports, citing a league source.
Purdue’s petition on behalf of Smith was submitted in November after Smith suffered a season-ending knee injury in a Sept. 11 game against Western Illinois. Ole Miss petitioned for Lockett — who tore his anterior cruciate ligament Sept. 25 against Fresno State and missed the rest of the season — earlier this month.
If both players are denied their sixth year, they will attend the combine as planned.
