Brooks: Gailey, Bills perfect fit for Newton

It’s been a hot topic of discussion in recent weeks, and the notion that the BillsĀ would seriously consider Auburn QB Cam Newton with the third overall pick in the draft is gaining momentum.
Add Bucky Brooks to the list (if there really is one) of analysts who see the fit, and he cites the track record of Chan Gailey’s work with athletic quarterbacks.
“I believe the Bills will seriously considering taking Cam Newton at No.3,” Brooks told fans during his weekly live chat. “While there are a host of questions surrounding him regarding his background and transition to the pro game, Gailey’s offense is the perfect fit for him. Gailey has tons of experience working with athletic quarterbacks, and his previous success with Kordell Stewart and Tyler Thigpen leads me to believe that he would create an offense that complements Newton’s skill set (strong arm and athletic ability).
“Given the need to have an impact player at the QB position to have a chance at winning a title, you have to pull the trigger on a potential franchise QB when you’re sitting at the top of the draft. If Newton tests like he shown during workouts, I wouldn’t be surprised to Bills select him with the third pick.”
No doubt the Bills have many holes to fill. But if they determine either Newton or Blaine Gabbert are a true franchise quarterback, it would seem to trump their other needs at No. 3.
