DALLAS — Before we get into anything else, let’s just jump right to the end of the book: I think the Packers are gonna beat the Steelers, and I think they’ll do it by double digits.
Anyone who knows that I’m a born-and-bred Pittsburgher will accuse me of attempting the Reverse Jinx… but honestly, I just happen to think the matchup favors Green Bay. The Packers offense looks very similar to that of the Patriots, and you may recall what Tom Brady & Co did when they paid a visit to Heinz Field in November.
The Steelers defense focuses on stuffing the run so that opponents are forced into passing situations, allowing defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau to unleash the hounds. The problem for the Steelers is, neither the Pack nor Pats cares about running the ball. They start out looking to sling it from the spread. Going five-wide takes away a lot LeBeau’s potential blitzers by requiring them to drop into pass coverage. Polamalu may be the defensive player of the year, but he’s not exactly Michael Haynes when it comes to shutting down a speedy receiver.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I must devote the next several days to talking myself out of what I just wrote.
