It was a scary moment Sunday at Chicago’s Solider Field when Seahawks TE John Carlson was carted off with an apparent head injury. But it appears Carlson might have avoided a very serious injury.

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald was impressed with both the Steelers and Packers, and you should be, too. Here are some stats to amaze your friends with at your playoff viewing party on Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers is pretty good. Last week, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to have a passer rating in each of his first two playoff starts exceed 120. He did it for a third consecutive time against the Falcons on Saturday night, leading the Packers to a spot in the NFC Championship Game.

I don’t think that the Ravens’ Joe Flacco is a big-time quarterback. He has great talent, but I don’t know if he has the “it” factor needed to be a franchise guy.

Ravens WR Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh both wanted more balls this season, but both had huge drops in the team’s loss to the Steelers. Boldin dropped a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, and Houshmandzadeh dropped a game-preserving pass.
Even after some big-name acquisitions, the Ravens still need help at receiver and especially one who can stretch the field.

The Steelers and Ravens entertaining slugfest disguised as a AFC divisional playoff game had it all: Vitriol. Huge plays and both sides of the ball. And actual scoring.
There was only one thing missing.

Six Atlanta Falcons starters that were listed as questionable for Saturday’s NFC Divisional game against the Green Bay Packers are active. All six practiced fully on Friday.

The Ravens have jumped out to a 14-point lead with a number of big plays, and the Steelers need to do the same thing here in the second half.
Posted: Saturday, January 15th, 2011 | NFL.com Staff Tags: Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens, Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers
NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders said before the Ravens-Steelers game that the key to winning for both teams came down to Ravens TE Todd Heap and Steelers WR Hines Ward, because neither team was going to have much success running the football.

Moments after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin challenged a call on the opening play, NFL Network’s Rich Eisen was pretty quick to challenge the coach, asking why you would burn a challenge about 15 yards so quickly into the game (via his Twitter account).

Steelers Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, is active for the AFC Divisional showdown with the rival Baltimore Ravens Saturday, as expected. Polamalu was a full participant in practice for the first time Thursday and was listed as probable on the team’s final injury report. He missed games in Weeks 15 and 16 while dealing with ankle and Achilles injuries, but he returned in Week 17 to face the Cleveland Browns.

The Bears knew going in to Week 17 they couldn’t improve their No. 2 seed in the NFC. Still, they played like they had to win the game. It’s a testament to the players and head coach Lovie Smith.

You see this story every year. A school holds a “pride” day for the local team. Yet, one individual wears the colors of another team, only to get sent home. And then the hand-wringing ensues.

NFL Network analyst Rod Woodson made his name in the Steelers secondary, but won a Super Bowl title as a member of the Ravens. Who better to speak on the latest chapter of this storied of this rivalry?

With all the talk about Tom Brady and Wes Welker, don’t be surprised if it’s the New England running game that wreaks havoc against the New York Jets in their divisional playoff game Sunday afternoon. So said NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwan in his playoff chat on Friday.
