Peyton Manning is at the top of many lists, and the latest top-billing should really come as no surprise.
Businessweek has released its 2011 “Power Sports 100,” a list of the most powerful professional athletes on and off the field, giving Manning the nod over the likes of Shaun White, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. The list is determined by a “combination of athletic achievement plus the ability to connect with an audience on a deeper, more personal level.”
Manning, who was ranked No. 5 last year, earned an estimated $15 million in endorsements to nearly match his base salary of $15.8 million in 2010. MasterCard, Reebok, Gatorade and Oreo are listed among his key sponsors.
Other NFL players in the top 25 include Tom Brady (he moved from No. 30 to No. 5 … Giselle factor?), Drew Brees (No. 7), Eli Manning (No. 17) and Arian Foster (No. 22).
