Bills GM Buddy Nix believes he can win with Ryan Fitzpatrick , but he’s also willing to admit the Bills need to add a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. So, the Bills are keeping their intentions hidden and their options open with the No. 3 overall pick.
Whatever happens, owner Ralph Wilson says the Bills won’t reach for a quarterback they don’t consider to be the best player available.
“If there is not a quarterback at No. 3 we like, we’re not going to reach and take him,” Wilson told The Buffalo News. “We’re going to take the player we like best.”
If the Bills do chose a quarterback, the top options would appear to be Auburn’s Cam Newton and Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert, who is Mike Mayock‘s top-rated quarterback prospect. Nix made it clear the Bills are looking for a “franchise impact player” with the third pick, but was reticent on his opinions of Newton.
“We’ve done some work on him,” Nix said. “We’ve got two more months to go, and that’ll answer all the questions.”
There’s actually about three months of such speculation before we’ll have any answers. The Bills have a number of needs at several positions, including several key pieces of a 3-4 defense that ranked No. 32 in the NFL against the run. NFL Network’s Charles Davis pegged the Bills to take North Carolina DE Robert Quinn in his first mock draft.
