USC’s Johnson an ideal slot receiver

MOBILE, Ala. — The slot receiver has always been a vital position in the NFL, but with the emergence of stars like Wes Welker and Davone Bess in recent years, it has risen in prominence.

If there is one prospect here at the Senior Bowl poised to take advantage of that development it is Southern California’s Ronald Johnson.

He has the potential to be an ideal slot receiver. He has demonstrated great route-running skills during practice and has excellent quickness out of his breaks.

And most importantly for anyone auditioning to be a slot receiver: He repeatedly got open.
