NFL Network analyst Rod Woodson made his name in the Steelers secondary, but won a Super Bowl title as a member of the Ravens. Who better to speak on the latest chapter of this storied rivalry?
Woodson stopped by to chat about the game on Thursday, and it is no surprise that one of the first questions out of the gate was about Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. As in, will Polamalu be the deciding factor in the game?
Woodson’s answer may surprise you.
“I don’t believe Polamalu will be the deciding factor,” Woodson said. “They are better with him, no question. But I think the deciding factor is which team doesn’t turn the ball over. That will determine the winner. The team that wins the turnover battle is 21-4 in this series, including the playoffs. At the end of the day, it’s which team can create turnovers on one side and eliminate them on the other.”
But pressed for a prediction, well, Woodson was just unwilling to make that leap. Maybe somebody should fix him up with Laura Quinn‘s tailor so he can have one of those half-Ravens, half-Steelers jersey.
“Since I spent time on both sides, it’s tough for me to split my heart in half,” Woodson said. “I know it’s going to be a great game, and the team that doesn’t turn the ball over the most will win. I really believe that. It’s the key factor. You might see some big plays, some sacks, some penalties. If a team is in the plus in the turnover margin, they’ll win. Period.
“You guys will have to decide, because I can’t!”
