Pete Carroll answers the call

There are a lot of reasons to like Pete Carroll. Here’s another.

During his news conference on Wednesday, Carroll was distracted by a reporters’ vibrating cell phone on the podium, presumably there to record his thoughts. Well, Carroll decided to answer the call.

“Hello?” Carroll answered. “No, not now. It’s a press conference. Sorry. I’ll get back to you.”

As funny as that was, Carroll just couldn’t get back to his previous frame of mind. He seemed much more interested in the call than answering questions. Can’t blame him. After he asked a reporter to repeat his question, Carroll quickly interrupted him.

“Do you think the guy will call back?”

There’s an unwritten rule to turn your cell phone for press conferences, so as not to be red-faced and on the wrong end of an icy glare from an NFL head coach or black-listed by PR types. Maybe said reporter had a friend who was calling just to see if he turned off the phone for the press conference.

I must say, well played, coach Carroll.
