LSU’s Peterson and six others declare Monday

While the Ducks and Tigers were busy with the BCS, a slew of other players used Monday to announce their intent to leave the college ranks early for the NFL draft this April.

Three from Pittsburgh who declared include RB Dion Lewis, WR Jon Baldwin and FB Henry Hynoski. Lewis broke Pitt alum Tony Dorsett’s rushing record his freshman year with 1,799 yards.

LSU star CB Patrick Peterson is one of the bigger names who decided to forgo his senior season after learning that he should be the top defensive prospect this year. Peterson also played on special teams as a kick and punt returner which makes him particularly attractive to potential teams.

Rounding out yesterday’s declarations were MLB Martez Wilson from Illinois, S Robert Sands from West Virginia and RB Jacquizz Rodgers from Oregon State. Wilson led the Illini with 112 tackles, Sands was a first-team All-Big East selection and Rodgers finished his college career as the Beavers’ second all-time rushing leader with 3,877 yards.
