Woodson: Defense and running game the key

Headline writers for the New York newspapers are salivating, thanks to the Jets winning on a last-second field goal. Just think of all of the foot puns they likely banked this week, just waiting for the perfect opportunity.
And to think of the fun they could have had with all of the “Folk hero” headlines.
K Nick Folk provided the heroics with a 32-yard field goal as time expired. One day into the 2010 playoffs, and last year’s Super Bowl contests are already eliminated.
The key, according to NFL Network analyst Rod Woodson, was the Jets’ basics.
“You bring a good defense and running game, and you can win on the road in the playoffs,” Woodson said. “That allowed Mark Sanchez to make plays down the stretch.”
The Jets out-rushed the Colts, 169-93, including 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns from veteran LaDainian Tomlinson.
Woodson said that the Jets will have to be more consistent on offense, though, to win next week at New England.
The Jets and Patriots will tangle at 4:30 p.m. ET next Sunday.
